Name? Emer O'Connell
Originally From? The City of the Tribes – otherwise known as Galway
How Many Marathons/Half-Marathons? No marathons – eeeek! I’ve been roped into Dublin 2015 however. Handful of halves and several 10Ks
Any hobbies (apart from Running)? Where do runners get any time for other hobbies?!! Baking (which I feel justified doing a lot of currently!); socialising; reading; keeping two preschoolers occupied!
What was the last book you read? Americanah; Cutting for Stone; In the Heart of Concern; Fireman Sam; more Fireman Sam; Bob the Builder; The Gruffalo (the latter list could go on and on ....)
What music are you listening to? My chocolate-equivalent fix on weekdays is listening to John Creedon uninterrupted!
Any goals for 2015? Completing the 2015 Dublin Marathon
Favourite race? My first race (20k) was in Brussels in 2000! I completed the race in 1 hour and 20 something mins and had illusions whilst downing my celebratory Belgian beers that I should go professional! Only the next day did I learn that they had cut the race by multiple kms due to the adverse weather conditions! Bit of a reality check!!
Favourite quote? Ah go on, go on, go on ....... applicable to so many situations!
What is the one single food that you would never give up? My most favourite day of the year (even beating Xmas day foodwise) is Pancake Tuesday. Lemon and Sugar crêpes have to be life’s most simple pleasure!

Originally From? Barefield
How Many Marathons/Half-Marathons? 10 marathons (which I always thought was a nice round number to finish on….) and the usual handful of half marathons and 10ks
Any hobbies (apart from Running)? Is part-time farming a hobby?
What was the last book you read? What the Ladybird Heard! (My two girls enjoyed it anyway.)
What music are you listening to? In the jeep currently I have Johnny Cash, The Pixies, The Cure and Gorrillaz……………so a bit of everything really depending on the mood
Any goals for 2015? Get back running after almost four years of a break…..and if I get around Dublin in one piece that will be a bonus. Along with 10 other work colleagues from Genworth we are hoping to raise as much as possible for the charity
Favourite race? Hard to say…Dublin is always great. Had a great run in Limerick in 2010. Barcelona in 2011 was just great craic with all the crew!! But it would be hard to beat the feeling of passing the finish line for the first time which, for me, was Edinburgh in 2008
Favourite quote? “Jesus will ye just go! If you don’t you’ll be cranky for the night.” My wife, Éadaoin, offers encouragement to Pat and myself one wintry evening as we stood at my front door looking out at the rain wondering if it was too bad to go for a run or not! We went for the run!
What is the one single food that you would never give up? Has to be steak and chips

Originally From? Barefield
How Many Marathons/Half-Marathons? 5 Dublin, 1 Paris 4 half marathons, I've numerous 10k done - I've lost count
Any hobbies (apart from Running)? I like walks and going for drives with the family. My other hobbie is private but needs both Melanie and myself...
What was the last book you read? I've tried, but by the time I hit page 4 I'm going back to page 1 because I've forgotten the names of the people, so no I don't read books .
What music are you listening to? I listen to anything but love ceili and country ,I can't sing and the lads at work will back me on this because I wear headphones at work and sing out loud and get told every night to shut up , for those that know me that is an impossible task
Any goals for 2015? To get to Dublin with as many runners as possible and hopefully get new people to join us and to help raise as much funds as possible for the Clare Crusaders clinic in Barefield.
Favourite race? I will never forget my first year, every mile on to our run and then Dublin, the atmosphere the crowd and above all the group and then to wait at mile 22 for Pat Bogue to catch up to me and Mark Fitzharris and then to cross the line all three of us. I got into running through my brother Cormac and my fab neighbour Alan Ball and also had the pleasure to run with the mighty Howard Flannery R.I.P. so thanks as on my first year not only did I get fit, I lost two stone in weight and that's not because of tight shorts
Favourite quote? Look for something positve in every day, even if some days you have to look a little harder.
What is the one single food that you would never give up? Hands down has to be Mel's fillet steak with fried onions and mushrooms and topped off with cream and cheese garlic potatoes.

Name? Angela Behan
Originally From? With so few babies actually being born in this great county of ours I hail from the parish of the "flying magpies". For the benefit of those not familiar with football that's DOONBEG in West Clare. As the story goes my father was on route to a junior football match with a lorry load of young fellas when he got word that my mother was in labour. They delayed the match so that they could drop my mother to the local general hospital in Kilrush before all continuing onto the match. With no maternity hospital I was delivered in the psychiatric ward. My mother reckoned I was always trouble after that. My father and the team returned to the hospital for a look at me on the way back hoping for a boy to donn the Doonbeg jersey !!......oh and they won the match!
How Many Marathons/Half-Marathons? DCM 2015 will be my first. Really looking forward to it. 3 halfs, loads of 10 milers, 10ks etc.
Any hobbies (apart from Running)? Any hobbies (apart from Running)? Well now that you ask...Actually, no I could get in trouble here! Will keep it clean(ish). To quote our famous Clare referee Rory Hickey when he met me running around the Éire Óg pitch with my fourth baby in tow "Angela, time for a new hobby"!! Haven't a lot of spare time with 4 kids. Doing a bit of strength training. Love travelling, seeing new places and just soaking up new experiences.
What was the last book you read? These days I prefer reading short articles on whats happening from around the world and issues that interest me.
What music are you listening to? Honestly will listen to anything that has a feel good vibe. Love live gigs
Any goals for 2015? Would completing my first marathon be enought of a goal? A sub 46min 10k and a sub 21min 5k would be nice too.
Favourite race? Have 3 so far, all for different reasons. Kinvara a couple of years ago. Great holiday vibe to the place and the route finished by the picturesque quays. Samsung night run in Dublin. Mad having hundreds of runners literally leaning on each others shoulders trying to get around the sharp turns. Enjoyed the half in Limerick this year with the Crusaders group. Felt good to be part of such a great group.
Favourite quote? Have a few here too. " There is a sport for everyone"- Frank Landy in 2010. I thought of this one evening at Ennis Track Training, watching a neighbours child who struggles with her weight always coming last at running and always went home deflated. I encouraged her to try the turbo javelin at the next competitions. She stood proud on the podium that day with a silver medal. Her Dad cried with pride and I have to say I had a tear in my eye too. Thanks Frank.
"While it is nice to be important, it is more important to be nice" not sure where I heard this but I use it a lot with the kids.
"Be the change that you wish to see in the world."- Mahatma Gandhi
What is the one single food that you would never give up? While I'm tempted to say Chocolate, I must confess the humble spud! My mash & scallions are to die for

Name? Shane ‘Apples’ O’Loughlin. A nickname affectionately given to me by a former work colleague for my ‘alleged’ overindulgence in apples
Originally From? Cabbage patch in Dysart, Clare
How Many Marathons/Half-Marathons? At the time of writing this one , the Dublin City marathon. I am hoping to get the all clear to run my second this Monday coming below in Cork. Surprisingly never ran a half marathon. A fair few 10km have kind of lost count
Any hobbies (apart from Running)? Complaining; I do a fair bit of that. I am sports obsessed and when not playing sport I like to coach or referee sport. I feel my short fuse is what makes me such a formidable under 8 camogie coach
What was the last book you read? Cover to cover Roy Keane’s latest autobiography (emphasising my love of sport and possibly my short fuse)
What music are you listening to? Whatever is on Classic Hits 4FM. I like to keep it old school, you dig?
Any goals for 2015? If I make it through the Cork City marathon it will be a miracle. Want to run the Dublin marathon again and hopefully break 40 minutes for 10KM
Favourite race? 2014 Dublin City marathon for the support. Never experienced anything like it. Also the 2014 Sonny Murphy 10 mile. It was then I realised I could do distance running
Favourite quote? ‘I did not have relations with that woman’ Bill Clinton. Followed by ‘if you aim for the sky you will go through the ceiling but if you aim for the ceiling you won’t get off the ground’ by.. I have no idea but sounds good
What is the one single food that you would never give up? Steak and chips. I will happily give up most of my friends for steak and chips

Name? Shane Hayes
Originally From? Born in Cahercalla Hospital in 1977, a True Clare Man, not many people can say that!! Although I spent many years in Navan, co.Meath and many people call me Navanman, however my birth certificate doesn't lie.
How Many Marathons/Half-Marathons? Dublin Marathons 2011, 2012, 2013, (had a phantom runner complete it in 2014 as I was injured), Waterford Marathon 2014. Numerous half marathons Tralee, Dingle, Killarney, Galway, Limerick, Athlone and The Burren to name a few!
Any hobbies (apart from Running)? Between work, the wife, child minding and house work I don't have time for anything else!.
What was the last book you read? Just started reading "The Run Fat Bitch Run Marathon Plan" looking for some inspiration!!
What music are you listening to? Don't really get to listen to music too often, turn on the radio/cd player in the car and all I get is from my son shouting, dadda I can't hear my dvd!! How times a changing. I'm a big fan of a band from Kells, Co.Meath called "ham sandwich" great live
Any goals for 2015? Stay injury free and hope to go sub 3:30 In Dublin Marathon it's definitely the place to do it, I'll retire then!
Favourite race? Waterford Viking Marathon 2014, ran 3:29:57 great feeling. Some people trying to burst my bubble that it was 500mtrs short, I was very dignified in my response. #sub3:30
As my finish line photo shows I couldn't have ran another 500mtrs!!
Favourite quote? This is my own quote "over train, over tired" I'm not one to abide by marathon plans/training programs. If Shane Hayes did marathon plans there would be no long runs!!
What is the one single food that you would never give up? Lambs Liver, quickly fried in olive oil and seasoned with sea salt and pepper. Hated eating it as a teenager but it would be my option of a last supper!

Any hobbies (apart from Running)? Playing guitar (badly), reading.
What was the last book you read? The Fire Witness - Lars Kepler
What music are you listening to? I'm a fan of Spotify, I can spend a whole day listening to stuff that is only just recognisable as music. I listen to anything I vaguely describe as "good" music - "good" music includes anything except country...and Abba...oh, and 1D and boy bands in general...and traditional...and...I could go on...
Any goals for 2015? Just a few this year...first is to get through the Limerick marathon, then Portumna 50K, then the Marathon du Medoc (yes, the one with the wine!) and then possibly (if I have any feet left) Dublin...
Favourite race? Barcelona is one I'd go back to do again...
Favourite quote? I could use "A bad run could be a good run in the long run" (Denise Clerkin), or "I've been worse when I've been better" (Siobhan O'Reilly)...but I'm going to quote Dr Seuss this time “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose...”
What is the one single food that you would never give up? I only get one? Who made up these questions? I want to put in cheese, chocolate, garlic, chocolate, onions, rhubarb, chocolate, bananas, did I mention chocolate? :)

A bit of repetition here but I must paraphrase Gerard Hartman which sums up my Clare Crusaders experience since 26th June 2007...’..I was fortunate, too, to have stumbled across marathon running... marathon running gave me more than I could ever have imagined: it gave me freedom and identity, and it allowed me to taste sporting success. It also taught me discipline and how to endure the pain and suffering necessary. It gave me plenty highs and, indeed, lows, introduced me to so many people, and helped me to make some great friends...’
