I suppose I’ve been following the same marathon training program since I started back in 2012, probably the same program most people do. Long slow runs building week by week. Doing this by yourself can get a bit monotonous at times especially on the really long runs. I enjoy the chance to get to Ennis and join in with the rest of the Clare Crusader but this doesn’t happen often enough.
I’ve changed tactics this year and have a new plan building some races into the program. Seemed a bit mad at first and definetly feels mad after shattering the life out of my quads during the Ballycotton 10 and again last weekend at the Lough Boora 10K, especially when looking at a 20 miler next weekend. The upside is the interaction with other runners, the time spent with liked minded people, stories swapped and relationships built.
I’m not sure how this change works out when running the 50K but I’m enjoying the journey getting there.
