Before I start this week’s blog, I have to correct an error in last week’s one…
The is one other of the Fir na Crusaders running in Portumna – Kieran Maguire is also in training up in Kildare for the 50K too…and he may even grace these pages with some thoughts one day…
I’ve noticed that people have a certain reaction when you tell them you’re going to run a 50k. First they look at you like their hearing has suddenly become defective, then there is a small pause, then the mental calculation stage – “that’s 31 miles!” they exclaim – before pronouncing you insane…
Insane may be close to the mark. Why am I doing this? I have no particular motivation other than I enjoy running and this looks like an interesting event. I was there a couple of years ago when Martin did his 100K and Kieran ran the 50K and really enjoyed the day…mind you, I didn’t do any running that day…but I was itching to have a run around the course. This time, going as a runner may be a different prospect, but I feel very lucky to be running it with great friends...
We have a long way to go before we get there, including a marathon “training” run, but we’ll get there with a fair wind and a bit of luck.
16 miles this weekend…still enjoying the running…still looking forward to it…
