Why do French women not get fat? This was one of the topics of Saturday morning's run. The question followed a brief discussion about my culinary skills or lack thereof (thanks Kieran Carr for the offer of a few lessons by the way)..... anyway it's amazing what you hear and learn on a long run!!........ 10 miles was the plan for Saturday morning. Emer was back from Philadelphia and Ronan made an appearance even though he had a rough week......for anyone that may not have heard he's been battling a bad dose of man flu for some time now........Tuesday was his birthday and it began with a 6.30am run which saw him stop a few miles into the run with a bad pain in the ribs......on the bright side he met some lady on his walk back to DNG who told him he had lovely legs so it wasn't an altogether bad start to his birthday..........anyway I digress.....back to Saturday....... It was a pretty cold morning...... I dragged myself out of bed at 7am and tried to ignore the sound of the wind and rain as I got my morning fix of caffeine...... despite the cold a great turn out at DNG for a 10m and 10k run. The roads were a bit dodgy with black ice in many spots so we made our way around at a comfortable and more cautious pace than usual.......it was my first long run in the new runners and I had a niggling pain in my arch (not to be confused with arse) early on but this eased off as we warmed into the run.......en route we managed to convince Breed Carr that Portumna would be a good idea......so another woman joins the team......Tricia is also hoping to join us while Ms. Brooks is still on the fence but I think we will convince her next time she shows up for a run..... From what I gather she's down with the female version of man flu ! .......mná na crusaders are putting it up to the men of the group this year.........as is usual on our Saturday runs we talk about anything and everything.......Ronan aka Gerry Fleming was forescasting a snow shower at 10am…..a few flakes fell at the top of Ballybeg Hill but that was about the extent of it, the possibility of low iron being contagious was also discussed!! ...Emer mentioned she is in San Francisco with work this week and is staying on Nob Hill which of course gave us a laugh as we pictured her doing her long run next week 'up and down Nob Hill'!!! We're easily entertained on a long run.......anyway we finished the 10miles with practically no moaning ....that will come in time no doubt.......Cairde awaited us with hot coffee, pancakes, fresh scones and porridge........it was worth running for that alone.…… Sunday morning a few of us turned up for Tracy’s foam rolling class….after a bit of discussion and comparing of foam rollers (Tom’s is the biggest by the way!) we set about rolling out the tight bits in an attempt to keep the injuries at bay……. all in all a good weekend training wise......As for why French women don't get fat......if you don't know….. then next time you are running just ask Mr.Ghilardi.... Personally I am not convinced its for the reason he suggested!!........11 miles next week......the miles they are a creeping up........whatever the weather….. bring it on!
